Hellenic Orthodontic Review 2002;5:49-59.
This paper describes in details the Pendulum appliance and its use for the distal movement of first maxillary molars. This appliance has the advantage that it does not require patient compliance and achieves significant distal movement of maxillary first as well as of second permanent molars. Its effect is mainly dentoalveolar, but indirect effects, mostly skeletal, have also been observed on the vertical dimension. The Pendulum appliance is a reliable alternative for the distal movement of first maxillary molars.
