Hellenic Orthodontic Review 1999;2:17-30.0.

The purpose of this article was to survey studies that have used in vitro experimental approaches to investigate frictional forces in the bracket-archwire complex during simulated orthodontic movement. A critical review of the research protocols adopted for the study of the foregoing system is provided, along with a discussion of the evidence supporting the proposed clinical implications for the tooth movement rate in vivo.
