GROWTH MODIFICATION WITH FUNCTIONAL APPLIANCE THERAPY: IS THERE A DISCONNECT BETWEEN THE EVIDENCE AMD THE CLINICAL REALITY?

This evidence-based lecture will explore the current evidence and varying philosophies regarding Growth Modification in skeletal Class II malocclusions utilizing Functional Appliance therapy in growing patients. Existing evidence will be contrasted against clinical outcomes achieved based on the treatment of individual patients and the short and long-term changes induced in skeletal, dental and profile outcomes for both moderate and severe cases. The benefits of Growth Modification modalities of treatment of individual patients, should never be tyrannized by the evidence!

MODERN CONSIDERATIONS OF ADHESIVITY, ANTICARIOGENICITY, ALLERGENICITY AND TOXICITY IN ORTHODONTIC BIOMATERIALS

This lecture will explore optimal bond strengths of modern orthodontic bonding materials, bonding to compromised enamel surfaces(hypoplastic and fluorosed enamel), and bonding to porcelain, composite resin, gold and amalgam with modern adhesion promotors. White spot lesion prevention, anticariogenicity, allergies to orthodontic biomaterials, as well as potential toxicity of bisphenol-A and Pthalates will be discussed and how to alleviate potential hazards in orthodontic biomaterials selection.
