Treatment of open bites with the use of “Sugawara” mini plates.

The use of mini plates introduced by Sugawara give “absolute” anchorage and increase the possibilities of treatment in those borderline surgical cases that would be very difficult to treat conservatively. They can be placed with local anesthesia on the zygomatic region or the mandible away from the roots of the adjacent teeth, thus providing an excellent anchorage and aid in treating open bites and other severe malocclusions.
This presentation focuses on the selection criteria of open bite cases that can be treated with the mini plates. It shows step by step the surgical insertion and treatment protocol. Three open bite cases will be presented, with emphasis on the biomechanics used to achieve functional and esthetic results.

When you fail to plan…you plan to fail.

Invisalign has been proven to be an effective way to treat individuals with various types of malocclusions. Some publications support that it is safe to treat easy to moderate cases. However clinical experience has shown that more severe or complex cases can be treated with Invisalign.
There are some cases which should be treated with the support of TADs or other Orthodontic appliances in addition to Invisalign.
Diagnosis and good Planning are always the key factors for great results.
This presentation will show the treatment of “complex” cases treated with Invisalign and will give emphasis on the fact that when treating patients we should always keep in mind that “when we fail to plan, we plan to fail”.
